Three SPS Students Earn Recognition in the 2019 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

Stamford Public Schools (SPS) announced that the Connecticut Affiliate of the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) recently selected Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) Senior Julia Kempton as a Connecticut Affiliate Winner of the 2019 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. AITE Teacher Sean Peterson nominated Kempton, who plans to study economics and computer science in college, currently works in the Computer Science department at UCONN Stamford and is a member of AITE’s multi-year, world-qualifying Odyssey of the Mind team.

WCSU to offer community interpreting classes this summer

The Western Connecticut State University Department of World Languages and Literature (WLL) will present the summer 2019 class, “Community Interpreting.” The 40-hour program will be offered during Summer Session II twice a week, on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 8:45 p.m., each with a 15-minute recess, from July 2 to August 3.

Scholarships Available for High School Seniors in Stamford

United Way of Western Connecticut is seeking applications for its annual Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes seniors attending any Stamford high school (public or private) who have volunteered extensively in the Stamford community over the course of their high school careers.
