Hosts “An Evening of Historical Proportions” on June 15th
Norwalk, CT June 15, 2007 – The Norwalk Historical Society held its first fundraising event on June 15th to generate funds for its Educational Programs, which benefit Norwalk area school children each year.
The event, titled “An Evening of Historical Proportions”, was held at Fat Cat Joe on Wall Street and featured a silent auction with wine tasting and fine cheeses from Fat Cat Pie Company. Over 50 items and services were generously donated by area businesses and sold to the highest bidders in the silent auction, which raised funds that will support the Society’s Little Red School House Program.
This program allows local third-grade schoolchildren to visit Norwalk’s Mill Hill Historic Park and discover what life in Colonial America was like for Norwalk residents during the18th century. The third-graders tour the 1835 Town House Museum, get to see a costumed reenactor portray Connecticut Colonial Governor Thomas Fitch and explore the c.1740 Fitch Law Office, and then spend time in the 1820 Little Red Schoolhouse to see what children of the era experienced in their day-to-day lives as students.
NHS plans to repeat this successful event during 2008 so that Norwalk’s school children may continue to expand their knowledge of Norwalk’s place in history by experiencing it first-hand.
