Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum to Celebrate Statewide Connecticut Open House Day on June 8

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk will participate in the 15th Annual Connecticut Open House Day – a unified celebration of the state’s fascinating world of art, history, and tourism – on June 8, 2019, 12-4 p.m. at 295 West Avenue Norwalk, CT. During this one-day event, the Museum, along with more than 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state, will open its doors and offer special $5 Mini-Tours to visitors. This exciting statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism (COT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s exceptional cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their newfound discoveries with visiting family and friends. Visitors will have a chance to view two new exhibitions, From Corsets to Suffrage: Victorian Women Trailblazers, which features the efforts of local women and men towards the fight for women’s right to vote, and Historic Grounds & Modern Gardens, a juried contemporary art exhibition.

Mystic Seaport Museum Celebrates 40 Years of Sea Music
Mystic Seaport Museum will host its 40th annual Sea Music Festival June 6-9, featuring concerts, workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and a scholarly symposium – all celebrating the music of the sea. From songs of the golden age of sail to contemporary compositions, the festival includes a wide variety of sea music both modern and traditional, a children’s stage with special performances for families, and demonstrations of maritime work songs – or chanteys – aboard the Museum’s historic vessels.

Several local celebrations of art, innovation and music on June 1 in Danbury
The first weekend in June will provide a wide variety of arts, music, food, entertainment, innovation and hands-on opportunities in Danbury. The Fourth annual Art at Ives, Juried Fine Art & Crafts Show will be from 1 to 7:30 p.m. with a concert by flutist Sherry Winston at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Ives Concert Park on Danbury’s west side. Saturday also will feature CityCenterDanbury’s Street Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. downtown on Main Street, and the Customer Appreciation Fair from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Housatonic Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 51 Austin St. in Danbury.

Community leaders kick up their heels for local theatre
Not since Cain and Abel has there been a fraternal rivalry like the one at Curtain Call's Dancing with the Stars event, Saturday night, May 18. And though there was a casket onstage later in the evening, there was no bloodshed, and one brother came out on top when Chris Carozza of the Carozza Realty Group, bested his brother, Michael Carozza of Carozza Fitness, by winning the Judges’ Choice Award (male division). Chris’ professional partner was Iraida Volodina of Arthur Murray Greenwich.

Stepping Stones Honors Active-Duty Military Families with Blue Star Museums Program
Today, Stepping Stones Museum for Children announces it will join museums nationwide in participating in the tenth summer of Blue Star Museums, a program which provides free admission to our nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families this summer. The 2019 program will begin earlier than in past years, launching on Saturday, May 18, 2019, Armed Forces Day, and ending on Monday, September 2, 2019, Labor Day. Military can find the list of participating museums at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums. Since 2012 when the award-winning children’s museum first joined the nationwide program, Stepping Stones has not only offered free admission during the summer months, but thanks to tremendous local support, it has extended the free offer all year long.
