Gee’s Bend Quilts exhibit
On January 5, 2010, Hill-Stead Museum will open a special exhibition of Gee’s Bend quilts, its very first exhibition in the Pope Riddle house of artworks not from the founding family’s original collection. The exhibition is a component of Hartford’s Community Health Services’ Community Threads project, a city-wide arts movement involving Hartford Stage, Hill-Stead and select arts and culture organizations to create community quilts and to celebrate the culture of quilting.
The exhibition continues through February 28 and will be accompanied by several programs at the museum, including a Gallery Talk on Sunday, February 7 at 1 pm, A Stitch in Time: Worktables, Sewing Boxes and Stitchery in the Pope Family; and a Quilting Circle Sunday, February 28, 1-3 pm for all levels.
