    Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop

    18th annual Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop, an intensive two-week seminar for advanced high school musicians specializing in trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar, piano, bass and drums. Tuition for this workshop is $900. The Workshop will be held at Stamford High School, 55 Strawberry Hill Ave., in Stamford, Connecticut.

    A Middle School division of the workshop, introduced three summers ago, returns by popular demand. Tuition for Middle School workshop is $550.

    Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop ‘10, beginning Monday, July 19 and continuing through Friday, July 30 (2010), is presented by Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic. Composer/arranger/performer John Mastroianni returns as Director of Summer Jazz Workshop ’10.

    To participate, all young musicians must register pending approval of Workshop administrators, unless they have attended a previous Workshop. The registration form and other pertinent information are available for downloading at www.syap.org and must be mailed with tuition check (payable to SYAP) to P.O. Box 3301, Ridgeway Station, Stamford, CT  06905. Deadline for registering is Friday, July 16 (2010). For additional information call Joyce DiCamillo at 203.532.1278.

    The young musicians approved to participate in Young Artists Summer Jazz Workshop ‘10 will be taught by a prestigious faculty which includes John Mastroianni, saxophones; and such widely recorded artists as Tony Kadleck, trumpet; Bruce Eidem, trombone; Joyce DiCamillo, piano; Chip Jackson, bass; Joe Cohn, guitar, and Thierry Arpino, drums.

    In addition, a number of prominent jazz recording artists will conduct master classes during the two-week session. The ultimate goal is the evolution of a number of jazz ensembles,which will perform in concert at the culmination of the Workshop experience on Friday, July 30.

    Beginning Monday, July 19 and continuing through Friday, July 30 (2010), the young musicians will rehearse and perform each weekday from 9am to 3pm during classes of jazz theory, improvisation, master class performances, composing and arranging and performing in jazz ensembles.

    The Middle School Workshop will run from 9:30am-12:00pm concurrently with the senior division on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays of each week. Students will receive instruction in theory and improvisation.
