THIS IS MINE
Drawings by the Artists’ Initiative Class at
ARI of Connecticut
January 7 – February 28, 2012
A collection of drawings, THIS IS MINE, from the Artists’ Initiative Class at ARI (Always Reaching for Independence) of Connecticut will be on display in the Mayor’s Gallery from Monday, January 7th through Thursday, February 28th. There will be a public reception, Thursday, January 10th from 5 -7pm on the 10th floor at 888 Washington Blvd., Stamford, CT.
The show features the work of developmentally disabled artists who attend art class at ARI. Board member and co-curator John Martin said, “We are thrilled to be able to share the work of a talented group of people with everyone in the Stamford area.” Art Calendars for 2013 and catalogs from the show will be available for sale.
The ARI Artists’ Initiative was founded in 2003 by local artist and ARI Board Member Donald Axleroad. Since its inception, ARI artists have been producing the extraordinary artwork that will be on display at this show. The Initiative has grown to more than 20 artists, and is taught by volunteer teacher and artist Charles Weisehahn.
The show coincides with ARI’s 60th anniversary of serving the Stamford community. During this time, ARI has developed and offered many services to meet the needs of people with disabilities. It provides programs for students transitioning from high school, residential alternatives, day programs and job placement.
ARI currently provides jobs, homes and services to over 175 adults with disabilities. “Enriches the lives of people with disabilities and their families by enabling them to achieve their fullest potential at home, at work and in the community.”
