LOFT ARTIST ASSOCIATION PRESENTS FAIRFIELD COUNTY’S
LARGEST VISUAL ARTS FESTIVAL
NOVEMBER 3 - 5, 2006

It has been a Fairfield County tradition for nearly 30 years – The Loft Artist Association’s Open Studios. Each November, over 4,000 art lovers across the tri-state area visit Stamford’s Arts and Antique district … to wander throughout the historic Yale and Towne building where 70 plus painters, sculptors, photographers, and mixed media artists create their original art work.

“Open Studios offers a fascinating peak at life inside the lofts. In a single weekend, you get to meet interesting artists, see where they create their work, and enjoy an imaginative exhibit with over 1,500 original art pieces,” said Shelly Denning, Loft Artist Association President. “It is one of most diverse and ambitious weekend art festivals in Fairfield County. Anticipation builds for months before the show begins, and many artists prepare for this event throughout the year.”

During their lively signature art celebration, The Loft Artist Association welcomes the public to meander throughout their historic 50,000 square foot lofts, which now includes the new LAA first floor gallery. Both emerging and established artists collectively open their private studios to meet with visitors, unveil their latest creations, and share their inspiring experiences. Each year, the self guided tour offers fresh and engaging surprises at every turn … as you peer behind the scenes into a potter’s wet room … witness a photographer’s awe-inspiring underwater adventures … or view the kaleidoscope of colors from an abstract painter’s ceiling high canvass.

”For three decades, The Loft Artist Association has contributed to the rich history and cultural life of Stamford’s South End,” said Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy. “Today, Open Studios is one of Southwestern Connecticut’s major cultural events, and continues to be an inspiration for neighborhood revitalization.”

The Loft Artist Association is the area’s last true artist colony. The late sculptor, James Jackson Burt, co-founded The Loft Artist Association in 1978. He moved into the landmark building, and soon it was transformed into a community of lofts for painters, sculptures, and photographers. Today, The Loft Artist Association continues to attract and showcase a diversified wealth of fresh talent. Its membership spans across generations and disciplines including painters, sculptors, musicians, dancers, photographers, craftsmen, performance artists, and designers. Young emerging artists share the scene with veteran professionals -- whose biographies are studded with solo exhibitions, major commissions, national magazine covers, teaching careers, and prominent art awards. The Loft Artist Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to building connections within Fairfield County’s visual arts community and exposing the general public to artists and their work.

The 27th Annual Open Studios takes place on November 3, 4, and 5 at 737 Canal Street in the Stamford Industrial Park. The event launches with a Friday evening “after work” preview from 5:30PM to 7:30 PM and continues on Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 5PM. Admission and parking are free. (A $5 donation is suggested). For more information, call 203-323-4153 or visit www.loftartists.com.
