From September 2 through October 28, Darien-based artist Karen Vogel and Westport-based artist Barbara Bernstein will have their work featured at ArtPlace Gallery @ The Watermark at 3030 Park. The title of their exhibit is “Nature Observed.” A reception will be held at the gallery for both artists on Wednesday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m., at which time they will present their work and answer guests’ questions.
“Our newest exhibition featuring acclaimed artists Karen Vogel and Barbara Bernstein is sure to impress all guests of the gallery,” said Kevin Hunter, Executive Director of The Watermark at 3030 Park. “Our collaboration with ArtPlace Gallery is just one more example of our community serving as a mecca for the arts in the area, and we are certain that the work of such fine exhibiting artists will be enjoyed by all who visit.”
Vogel studied painting and drawing at New York’s Art Students League and Washington D.C.’s Corcoran Gallery. Her work appears in exhibitions throughout the state, as well as in her personal studio in Norwalk, CT. Currently, Vogel serves on the board of The Women’s Caucus for The Arts and teaches at the Darien Art Center. For the past decade, she has focused on printmaking at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk.
“My appreciation for the natural environment stems from my graduate studies at the New York Botanical Garden,” said Vogel. “My drawings and paintings make visual reference to botanical forms using unique colors, patterns, and layers.”

Bernstein taught art for 19 years in the Westport public school system. Her work has been displayed at over 200 group and national juried exhibitions including the Salmagundi, Allied Artists of America, and Art of the Northeast. Additionally, Bernstein has received over 40 awards for her artistic achievements including the Grumbacher Gold Medallion for outstanding achievement in oil painting. Currently, Bernstein serves as a juried artist member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, the Connecticut Women Artists, and the New Haven Paint and Clay Club.
“My art reflects the inner serenity and restorative power of nature,” said Bernstein. “I work with both oil and water color to create still lifes, figures and landscapes.”
The collaboration between the senior living community and non-profit, cooperative art gallery aims to provide both residents and guests of The Watermark at 3030 Park with the opportunity to experience the work of fine artists such as Vogel and Bernstein.
