Kaoud Carpets and Rugs will host a free design seminar, “Artwork Underfoot” with Color Consultant Rita T from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18. Light refreshments will be served. Limited space is available; pre-register by sending an email to fred@kaouds.com or call (203) 762-0376. "A quality rug offers wonderful design versatility,” said Fred Kaoud Jr, whose family has been known for providing both education and consistent quality to homeowners and the interior design trade for more than five decades. “The best way to insure a top quality handmade carpet is to feel the pile face. You are looking for good tightness and soft material. In an attractive rug the colors flow together peacefully,” he added.
“Beautiful rugs can provide the inspiration for a new color palette for any room,” observed Rita T. “Color trends tend to cycle over a period of about eight years, and today’s rugs fit perfectly with what is in style now, as well as with emerging color palettes. Strong vegetable tones like tomato, carrot and eggplant, as well as citron and warm grays are very popular now, and blues are everywhere,” she remarked.
For this design seminar, Rita T will create palettes to complement several different rugs, in a variety of price ranges, from the Kaoud collection of antique rugs, modern rugs, transitional, broadloom, custom carpet, sisal rugs, and jute rugs. “Rugs create a focal point for a dining room, foyer, family room or living room. The warm, rich, beautiful colors of a tribal rug suggest one color palette, a different selection might tell a primitive or tropical color story. Rugs woven with combinations of wool and silk fibers add a luxurious dimension to the very popular neutral grey tones prevalent in today's most important palette,” she said.
Rita T will also draw attention to the selection of stair runners. “In addition to oriental and tradition runner patterns which are often selected, there are newer, contemporary versions which enhance those important staircases in foyers and resolve both safety and acoustic concerns. Kaouds has just brought in an exciting new line with a good deal of exclusivity in Fairfield County,” she added.
