Silvermine Guild Arts Center, located in New Canaan, CT will feature the juried Guild Group Show “Language in Art” and Director’s Choice: Kirill Doron. The exhibition opens on August 8th and runs through September 17th. All are welcome to the opening reception on Sunday, August 8th from 2pm to 4pm.

The juried Guild Group Show “Language in Art” is a new exhibit showcasing the myriad of ways in which artists incorporate language into their art and seek to engage the viewer into this dialogue. Artists are increasingly engaged in conversations with their viewers. Lecturing them, amusing them, persuading them, cajoling, trying to convince them to see the world as they see it themselves, or perhaps, as they would wish their admirers would see it. Some messages are quite clear, but many are ambiguous and vague, even intentionally mysterious, requiring the viewer to discern the meaning. Whether it’s painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video or sound art, artists are constantly exploring this relationship.

Juried by Liza Statton, Interim Director of ArtSpace in New Haven and Jeffrey Mueller, Gallery Director of the Silvermine Guild Arts Center, Silvermine Guild Artist members were invited to prepare and submit work in all media which conforms to this theme.
Ms. Statton oversees 46 exhibitions in 7 galleries each year at Artspace, as well as the annual City-Wide Open Studios in New Haven. Prior to joining Artspace, Ms. Statton was at SITE Santa Fe in New Mexico, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, MA, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Mr. Mueller, Gallery Director of Silvermine Galleries, holds an MA in Art History and is an adjunct professor at SUNY Purchase College. He manages the gallery, presenting over 20 exhibitions each year, and the Guild of Artists. Prior to joining Silvermine he was at RJ Fine Arts in Stamford and Hyde Collection Art Museum, and has curated exhibits at Neuberger Museum of Art, RJ Fines Arts and the Silvermine Guild Arts Center.

For New Milford artist, Kirill Doron, the Director’s Choice exhibit showcases his realistic still life paintings in oil, reflecting his fascination with the magic and mystery of the commonplace, a world where everyday objects become infused with personal meaning and timeless artistic resonance. Mr. Doron’s still life paintings are of simple objects and demonstrate his connection with trompe-l’oeil, a technique that dates back to the Renaissance. A French term literally meaning "trick the eye," his paintings, rendered in extremely realistic detail, give the appearance of being three-dimensional.

Kiril Doron, a Silvermine Guild Artist and Faculty member, immigrated to the United States from Russia where he earned his degree at the Moscow Art Institute and was a Professor of Art at the Art University in Moscow. He began his painting career when he arrived in the U.S. in 1981, where he became known as a landscape artist before concentrating on still life painting. Mr. Doron has won numerous awards, including many Gold Medals from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum in Hartford, the Pastel Society of America, the Knickerbockers Artists Society in New York City, the Paint and Clay Club, and the Silvermine and Ridgefield Guild of Artists in Connecticut. His paintings are widely collected and have been reviewed in the New York Times. He has exhibited in prestigious shows nationally at galleries including the National Arts Club, the Phillipe Staib and Lever Galleries in New York City, the Westport Arts Center in Westport, CT, the Sono Gallery in Norwalk, CT, Bachelier-Cardonsky Galleries in Kent, CT, and Carrie Haddad in Hudson, New York,.
