The final two shows of Curtain Call's 2010-2011 season include one of Broadway's longest-running shows of all times and a brand new musical written by a local author. A CHORUS LINE and BLINDSIDED BY A DIAPER will be presented by Stamford's longest-running and only year-round, non-profit producing theatre company, Curtain Call. Auditions for both shows will take place on March 7 and 8, in the evening, at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex, 1349 Newfield Avenue, Stamford.
BLINDSIDED BY A DIAPER is a musical comedy about the roller coaster ride that couples go on when they become parents. The musical was an instant hit when songs and scenes were first presented in Curtain Call’s Musical Mondays concert reading series in April of 2007. It will play in The Dressing Room Theatre May 12 through 22. The book is by Dana Hilmer and William Squier, the music is by Jeffrey Lodin and lyrics are by William Squier. Directing is BT McNicholl with music direction by Isaac Harlan.
BLINDSIDED BY A DIAPER is based on a Three Rivers Press publication created and edited by Dana Hilmer. It was adapted into a musical by Jeff Lodin and Stamford author Bill Squier, best known to Curtain Call audiences for productions of their shows TOP OF THE HEAP (2004) and A MERRY MULBERRY STREET MUSICAL (2009 & 2010), and Bill wrote the family-friendly musicals THE 3 SCROOGES (2001 & 2002) and THE KLEMPERERS’ NEW CLOTHES (2004 & 2005).
"We're very excited to have BT McNicholl, who grew up in Darien, come back to Connecticut to direct this," said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call's executive director and producer. "BT has most recently been Assistant Directing some of Broadway’s biggest musical hits, including BILLY ELLIOT, CABARET and SPAMALOT, so we're thrilled to have him helm this premier," Ursone said.
All roles are open and include: Lisa and Jeff who are first time parents, between 25 and 35 years old. The musical follows from their child’s conception to first birthday. Also casting two other couples, aged 30 to 50+, who play all of the other parents they encounter along the way. Everyone in the show has their own story to tell and a lot of singing to do! The score is contemporary pop rock (like AVENUE Q, MAMA MIA or WICKED). So, be prepared to audition with a song written in that style of music. Those auditioning should bring sheet music in the proper key and be prepared to read from the script. (Non-union actors only.)
A CHORUS LINE, one of the longest-running musicals in Broadway history, will take the stage of The Kweskin Theatre from June 3 through 25. Directing will be Stamford resident and Curtain Call’s co-founder, Lynne Colatrella. Choreographing will be Jimmy Locust, best known for his work as a professional dancer, choreographer, actor and teacher who has danced with superstars Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Quincy Jones and Debbie Allen. His work spans The Grammys, MTV’s Video Music Awards, Academy Awards, the 1996 Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies (with Emmy winner Kenny Ortega), MTV’s Andy Dick Show, The George Lopez Show, films and commercials. Music direction will be by Stamford resident Greg Chrzczon (Curtain Call's ANNIE and HELLO, DOLLY most recently.)
