Starting March 3 through April 30, Weston artist Binnie Birstein and Fairfield artist Susan Newbold will have their work featured at ArtPlace Gallery @ The Watermark at 3030 Park. The title of their exhibit is “Looking Back.” Birstein is an award-winning artist originally from New York City. Her work has been shown throughout the country, most recently at the Silvermine Guild Art Center in New Canaan. Birstein also teaches workshops for teachers and offers small group and private instruction at her studio in Weston.

“I have always worked in series and sequences, on multiple images at a time,” said Birstein. “Whether oil, acrylic, monotype or encaustic, each medium brings another dimension to my work, and I look forward to sharing my art with residents and guests of The Watermark at 3030 Park.”

Newbold is an award-winning mixed-media artist who has exhibited, taught and studied extensively within the United States and abroad. Her work has been collected by private donors, as well as institutions, and she has been invited to participate in solo and juried exhibitions at several regional museums, galleries and art centers.

“My work has always been about my personal experience,” said Newbold. “Using old pictures, old text, and memorabilia allows me to speculate about the history surrounding these objects and the emotional content involved. My hope is that the viewer will have a similar experience.”

The collaboration between the senior living community and non-profit, cooperative art gallery aims to provide both residents and guests of The Watermark at 3030 Park with the opportunity to experience the work of local artists such as Birstein and Newbold. A reception will be held for both artists on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m., at which time they will talk about their work on display and answer guests’ questions.

ArtPlace Gallery @ The Watermark is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call The Watermark at 3030 Park at 203-374-5611.
