Darien, CT - The Geary Gallery of Darien invites those interested in unique works of art to visit its new “Pre-Auction” Gallery Room. The Pre-Auction room is dedicated to showcasing artwork previously owned by its local Fairfield County clientele, many of whom have had the pieces in their families for generations.
“Over the years we’ve helped people through the process of selling artwork through the auction houses in Connecticut and New York. However in speaking to our gallery visitors, we’ve realized that many people who would be interested in acquiring a previously-owned piece are either intimidated or unavailable to go to an auction for their purchase,” explained gallery owner, Tom Geary. “This new service gives our customers the opportunity to bid on a piece of art that they’re interested in acquiring. At the same time, the previous owner is afforded a service that makes the process of selling it easy and convenient.”
The minimum bid is determined by the gallery owners who appraise the piece at fair market value. Similar to a silent auction, visitors to the gallery can bid on a certain piece that they are interested in acquiring, and if their bid is accepted, they are then contacted by the gallery. The Geary’s currently have dozens of pieces of auction items, and the display is rotated regularly in the Pre-Auction Room, so there are always new pieces to view. Art enthusiasts, collectors and those interested in viewing items available for bidding are encouraged to visit Geary Gallery. Artwork owners who are interested in consigning a piece to the Gallery to auction can call Tom Geary at (203) 655-6633 or email info@gearygallery.com.
Custom Original Portrait Service
Another new service that Geary Gallery announces is its Custom Portrait Service — created by special arrangement with a select group of artists, chosen due to their mastery of their particular subject and medium. The service makes it easy and affordable to commission an original work of art, either of a family, an individual, a pet or home.
Depending on proximity and individual technique, the selected artists can paint their subject either from a live sitting or a series of photographs. Individual portraits are available in oil, pastel or graphite. House portraits are available in pen & ink or acrylic, and pet portraits are available in oil. The artists’ portfolios are available to view at the Portrait Artists’ Gallery.
The Gallery also houses Accent Picture Framing and Restoration with an extensive selection of over 2,000 corner samples for any type of artwork. Its precision restoration service has restored oil paintings and frames that hang in many museums, galleries, and historical societies. To help parents with babies and small children who are unable to carry heavy or large works, Geary recently announced another new service, curbside pick-up. This service allows customers to call from their car when they’re in the gallery parking lot, and a gallery employee will bring it to them.
In addition to the newly dedicated Pre-Auction room, Geary Gallery features three elaborate gallery rooms with an extensive collection of original artwork from more than 50 artists. Geary Gallery maintains an ambitious exhibition schedule which rotates monthly. It showcases both Connecticut-based artists with national reputations, as well as well-known artists from along the Eastern seaboard.
Located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien, gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm. It is owned and operated by Norwalk residents, Anne & Tom Geary, who have spent more than twenty-seven years as friends to artists, spotting talent and market appeal, and nurturing careers.
