"Reflections" - a collection of 29 quilts made by the radical fringe of the quilting world By "The Art Quilt Network". Now On Display in January & February 2010 in the Kiernan Hall Nature Arts Gallery.

They invite you to slip into new and different worlds. They take you on inner journeys through memories of relationships and places of the heart-into the flow of ideas where something new is created.

This so called 'suitcase' show (meaning it could fit within a suitcase) has been traveling the US for two years. The collection of 29 quilts, each measuring approximately 18" x 24", will make its final stop in Greenwich, CT for display in Audubon Greenwich's Kiernan Hall Nature Arts Gallery. These pieces were made by many of the acclaimed members of the Art Quilt Network. The Art Quilt Network was founded in 1986 by the internationally known quilt artist, Nancy Crow. From a small core of artists the group has grown to 60 highly creative members from America and Canada who meet twice a year in Columbus, Ohio (and occasionally in other cities) for a three day retreat. The purpose of these gatherings is to provide a non-competitive, supportive environment where new ideas, information and each artist's most recent works are shared. Many Art Quilt Network members have been the recipients of national, state and local art grants and awards. Many members have taught and exhibited throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Examples of their previous work can be found online at www.artquiltnetwork.com.

The show 'Reflections' began in February of 2008 at the famous Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary at the Blair Audubon Center in Naples, FL. It then traveled to the LCA Gallery in Newark, OH for the Spring in 2008. From there, it returned for a brief stint at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary for October of 2008 before moving on to Audubon's acclaimed Aullwood Center in Dayton, OH in January of 2009. It then traveled to Santa Fe, NM for display at the Randall Davey Audubon Center for the Spring of 2009. It now will be in Greenwich, CT for two short months before these 29 inspiring quilts return to their accomplished owners.

As a bonus for being the final location, a few of the artists have indicated a willingness to sell their pieces for the first time after being approached often during the collection's two-year tour around the country. People who are interested in acquiring one of these 'works-of-art' will find a list of the pieces listed for sale in the Nature Arts Gallery at Audubon Greenwich. If visitors are interested in buying a piece, they can inquire in the store.

The Kiernan Hall Nature Arts Gallery is located inside the Kimberlin Nature Education Center. Stop in anytime from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday - Saturday and from 12:00 to 5:00 pm on Sundays. To visit during other hours, please call the Center Director for an appointment.
