Norwalk, CT - On August 28, 2011, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. the park surrounding the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum at 295 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT will be overflowing with a wide variety of new and used merchandise and family-friendly entertainment as the museum launches its fourth annual Old-fashioned Flea Market.

Vendors will run the gamut, selling from vintage to contemporary fashion, to rare and one-of-a-kind objects, to everyday practical household items. Among the vendors this year, Phyllis Rose of the Maury Rose Group of Greenwich will display for sale a collection of antique and collectible items including a rare pair of solid brass Gucci insignia plaques depicting a whimsical knight in shining armor holding shopping bags and originally housed at the fashion company’s headquarters in Milan, Italy. Furniture on sale will include a set of wine tasting chairs from the cellar of a renowned Hollywood star who recently sold his mansion in Greenwich.

The Old-fashioned Flea Market will feature an outdoor exhibit of classic and antique cars from 1911 through the 70s, including a 1911 Cadillac, a 1927 Model T Ford, a 1912 Packard Touring, and a 1956 Chevrolet, among others.

An all-American barbecue offering hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, and other summer favorites, will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A concert will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the South Lawn and feature the Bob Lasprogato Dixieland Band.

Children interested in becoming policemen and firemen will have the opportunity of learning about fingerprinting and fire drills while meeting with members of Norwalk’s Police Department and Firefighter’s Association.

Admission to the Flea Market is free. Museum docents will be available inside the Mansion to give half price, $5 mini tours to those shoppers interested in visiting and supporting this National Historic Landmark. The museum’s Gift Shop will be open during the event and feature “Christmas in August,” a selection of holiday items, as well as jewelry, gift baskets, depression glass, and books pertaining to the Civil War, Victorian era art and architecture, local history, and more. All proceeds will benefit the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum.

LMMM sponsors include Cain Management, Costco, Crystal Rock Water, Eagles Club, Outdoor Cookers Catering and Event Planning, Stew Leonard’s, Royal Flush, and Shoprite.

In the spirit of non-profit partnership, the Mansion has extended an invitation to area organizations and has donated 10 spaces to include other non-profits so they can share their message with Flea Market shoppers.
