“Exploring Nature” will exhibit large works by Maria C. Friscia. The artist attributes her love of art to her wonderful memories growing up in a small mountain village in Italy admiring the picturesque countryside. Her work is inspired by observing nature:
“Nature frees me from all onuses of life, and when looking at landscapes, I find myself concentrating on the “self”–that which is to me the spirit, the soul of being. Through investigating nature, I am compelled to understand myself and reflect on my role and purpose of being. Art and philosophy are one during this engaging time of observing nature and creating a landscape while painting. During this creative process I am in constant touch with my inner feelings. The woods, the hills, the cliffs, the water–these are all motifs for inspiration and reflection of a particular experience.”
Maria C. Friscia received her B.A. degree in art and subsequently a M.F.A. from Lehman College in New York. This year her work was selected for the 33rd Annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show at the Stamford Art Association. As a member of the Art Society of Old Greenwich her painting was selected for the “Open Juried Show” at The Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich winning second prize for oils in 2012. In 2011 she was the first prize winner for “Far Away Places”, an exhibition at the Stamford Art Association. The following year, she won second price for the same exhibition. Also in 2011, she was one of six artists to be selected to display in “Revisioning Nature” at the Audubon Greenwich.
Maria C. Friscia is a resident of Riverside, CT and much of her inspiration for her current works is drawn from the varied landscapes she encounters in the town of Greenwich. For more on the artist visit her website at www.mcfriscia.com.
