BL Companies Adds to Talent Pool in its Growing Hartford Office

Meriden, CT - BL Companies, a multi-disciplinary architecture, engineering, environmental and land surveying firm providing services to public and private clients in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, is pleased to announce that three senior level engineering employees have joined the firm in their Hartford, CT office as a Project Managers and Senior Project Managers in the Transportation & Infrastructure group and the Civil Engineering group.

With over 26 years of experience, Nicholas (Nick) Giardina, PE joins BL as a Senior Project Manager and the Manager for the Transportation and Infrastructure Group for the Hartford office. Nick has significant project experience in highway/roadway and site design and an in-depth knowledge of CTDOT standards. He previously served over 10 years as the Deputy Civil Department Manager for a large national consulting firm for its Connecticut office in Rocky Hill. Prior to this he was a lead project engineer for the CTDOT's highway design unit with responsibilities that included the design, development and preparation of plans, specifications, permits and cost estimates for projects that involved roadway design plans for intersection improvements, interchange modifications , at-grade railroad crossings, roadway realignments and reconstructions as well as highway resurfacing and safety improvements. At BL, Nick will focus on managing and providing oversight on several large CTDOT projects including the State Bridge Program Consultant Liaison Engineering (CLE) contract, Highway Design CLE contract and the Replacement of the Route 74 bridge in Tolland/Willington. Additionally, Nick will lead and participate in BL's municipal infrastructure projects being designed and completed out of BL's Hartford office as well as with the implementation of the Company's growth in Public Infrastructure throughout the Northeast region.

With over 13 years of transportation experience, Brett Stark joins BL as a Project Manager in the Transportation and Infrastructure Group. Brett has worked on a wide range of both state and municipally-administered projects, from roadway and bridge improvements to major transportation corridors and public transit initiatives. Prior to BL, Brett was a liaison engineer working with CTDOT. In this role, Brett fostered many strong relationships with municipalities, consultants, and other stakeholder agencies. At BL, Brett will continue to work with CTDOT as the Project Manager for the Highway Design Consultant Liaison Engineering contract. The contract involves the administration and oversight of various CTDOT transportation and related projects including oversight of CTDOT design consultants.

With over 40 years of experience, Robert (Bob) Lacourse, PE joins BL as a Project Manager in the Civil Engineering Group. Bob's experience extends to civil engineering land development including subsurface utility design, roadway and highway improvements as well as environmental, local and state permitting. Prior to joining BL, Bob was an Engineer with the City of Hartford Department of Public Works where he managed staff in the Engineering Department and was Director of the Greater Hartford Flood Commission. Prior to his work with the City, Bob worked as a Principal Manager for a Land Development firm in Connecticut where he managed projects ranging in size from 10,000 SF to 500,000 SF.

"Nick's and Brett's familiarity with CTDOT and their design process and experience in transportation engineering will enhance our capabilities and services being provided to CTDOT and Connecticut municipalities. Bob's past experience on both the consultant and municipal side will be invaluable as we pursue further projects with municipalities in the Metro Hartford area. He will also be one of the key project managers on the Highway Design CLE contract with CTDOT that Brett Stark is managing overall. We are thrilled to add these engineers to our expanded office in Hartford."
