Brian Carcaterra has been promoted to principal in the Greenwich office of Newmark Knight Frank. A member of the Newmark Knight Frank team since 2002, Carcaterra specializes in representing tenants and owners of commercial real estate on both a regional and national basis.
“Brian heads up a team of four brokers,” explains John Goodkind, managing principal of Newmark Knight Frank’s Greenwich office. “In the past year, he was awarded The Exchange, Normandy Real Estate Partners’ portfolio in Westchester County, which consists of 14 buildings and 1.7 million square feet, a complex of buildings that used to be known as the Platinum Mile, located along I-287 in Harrison and White Plains. Thus far, Brian has concluded negotiations for more than 200,000 square feet on behalf of Normandy, including Westchester Medical Group’s new 31,600-square-foot headquarters space, JPMorgan Chase’s 22,500-square-foot long-term renewal and WJ Deutsch’s 29,000-square-foot expansion. In 2009, he was responsible for the signing of 470,000 square feet as agency or tenant rep. Many of these transactions were in Westchester and Fairfield Counties, but close to a third of them took place at a national level—most notably for One Communications.”
In addition to his work with the above clients, Carcaterra’s most notable recent leasing transactions include negotiations for OTA Advisors, MKM Partners (deals closed in San Francisco, New York City and Stamford, Conn.), NFP Indemnity, and Blacksmith Brands. Also in 2009, he was recognized as one of the Business Council of Westchester’s “Forty Under Forty.”
Carcaterra, known for his talents at economic analysis and as an investor in commercial property, has recently been accepted to Harvard Business School’s Real Estate Executive Program, which he will begin attending in March 2010.
While he’s becoming more and more of a household name in the real estate community, Carcaterra is perhaps best known for his exploits on the lacrosse field. Prior to joining Newmark Knight Frank, he had a four-year professional career with the Long Island Lizards, being named All-Pro in three of those years. At Johns Hopkins University, he was a three-time All-American goalie and competed in three NCAA Final Fours. Since his playing days, Carcaterra is now the head coach of the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), a post collegiate team competing in the American Lacrosse League. At the NYAC in his three years as coach, the team has won three straight championships and has compiled a 47-2 record. He has helped to form Re-Lax, a social group for lacrosse-playing businesspeople in the New York City metro area. Lastly, in November of 2008, Carcaterra was honored as an inductee to the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame – Hudson Valley Chapter.
“Lacrosse is vastly different from real estate: faster-moving,” he remarks. “But it’s just as much of a team effort, and playing lacrosse taught me a lot of important lessons that I’ve made use of in my real estate career. All the brokers on my team play lacrosse, too: It’s a great way to let off steam and build camaraderie.”
