SBA announces Connecticut Small Business Week winners

A. Gregory Bachmann, President of DYMAX Corporation of Torrington, CT has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2011 Connecticut Small Business Person of the Year, SBA’s top award, according to an announcement made by Bernard M. Sweeney, Connecticut’s SBA District Director.

Bachmann has been President for DYMAX Corporation and its subsidiaries worldwide since September 2005. DYMAX is a world-class manufacturer of light-curable adhesives, light-curing equipment and dispensing systems which are supplied to the medical, electronic, appliance, transportation and alternative energy markets worldwide.

Today, DYMAX has more than 200 employees globally with additional facilities in Germany, China, Hong Kong and Korea.

Other SBA award winners are:

· Margaret (Peg) Sheahan, Partner & founder of Mitchell & Sheahan, P.C., of Redding, CT was named the 2011Women in Business Champion of the Year. Sheahan provides legal advice and representation to both private and public sector. She provides counsel aimed at preventing the kinds of employer-employee conflicts that lead to litigation to support union organizing efforts.

· Jim Nilsson, Owner and Managing Partner of Geissler’s Supermarkets Inc., of South Windsor, CT was named 2011 Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Business of the Year. Geissler’s started in 1923, over 88 years ago with A.F. Geissler delivering groceries to the small village of Broad Brook in the Town of East Windsor. The Nilsson family still owns and operates the Geissler’s Stores today with many family members involved.

· Frank X. Hursey, President of On Site Gas Systems, of Newington, CT was named 2011 Exporter of the Year. This company founded in 1987 designs and manufactures equipment that reliably produces oxygen and nitrogen for use in over 100 applications across dozens of industries in more than 70 countries worldwide. From emergency oxygen on the battlefield and after natural disasters – to nitrogen systems that keep tires filled to optimize gas mileage, aid in lead-free soldering, or preserve food, beverages and pharmaceuticals – On Site Gas stands ready to serve.

· Clayton (Clay) M. Williams, Jr., of New Haven, CT was named 2011 Minority Champion of the Year. Williams is highly engaged with the City’s constituents and especially its entrepreneurs and small business owners. He helps New Haven’s city entrepreneurs and business owners locate sources of financing assisting them with all the necessary steps. With over 30 years experience in the banking industry, Mr. Williams is truly a model citizen to New Haven as he is consistently going above and beyond the call of duty and volunteering his time to help minorities get their share of the American Dream.

· Dennis Brown of Orange, CT was named 2011 Veteran Advocate Champion of the Year. Brown is a veteran of the Vietnam War and has been active in counseling veterans for many years. Mr. Brown was a business owner in the State of Connecticut for many years and started his business with a veteran’s loan from the SBA in 1982 and is currently Vice President of Business Counseling for Connecticut Community Investment Corporation (CTCIC).

· Patrick Lorent of Shelton, CT was named 2011 Financial Services Champion of the Year. Mr. Lorent has over 22years experience in the Commercial Lending industry. He is currently VP & Manager of People’s United Bank Government Lending Department and serves as the banks’ liaison for all Small Business Federal and State Lending Programs.

All the award winners will be recognized at the Connecticut Small Business Week breakfast celebration scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th, 2011, at Amarante’s Sea Cliff in New Haven, CT.
