The United Illuminating Company (UI) will host a prominent group of site selectors from across the country to highlight the advantages of locating businesses in Connecticut’s Central Coast region on August 24 and 25, 2010. In today’s economy, it is more important than ever to create new jobs in Connecticut.

The site consultants represent a variety of national real estate firms who specialize in corporate relocation services and project expansions for multiple clients. These clients include small, midsize and even Fortune 500 companies throughout the U.S and internationally that are making decisions about where and when to make their next capital investments. This particular group of decision makers arrived in Connecticut today from approximately 11 different states across the country.

“This is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate why companies should consider Connecticut for a new business location,” said Jim Torgerson, UI’s chief executive officer. “UI has always been a leader in promoting the value of doing business in this region and in our service territory.”

The tour is the result of a partnership between the public and private sectors in the region. Major sponsors and partners include Bayer Healthcare, Yale University, Aquarion Water Company, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), Pilot Pen Tennis, the Connecticut Economic Resource Center (CERC), Yale New Haven Hospital and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation.

“There is a lot of interest in our state and this region in particular,” added West Haven Mayor, John Picard. “These consultants have come from as far away as California, Texas and Kansas and will be considering where their next project will land. We have an enormous opportunity here.”

The tour will include discussions with business executives, educational leaders, chief elected officials and state officials, a briefing at the new Smilow Cancer Hospital and aerial tours of the region. Topics being addressed during the two day showcase include current development opportunities, transportation initiatives, energy infrastructure, state and local incentives, education, workforce and sustainable development.

Connecticut’s Central Coast (www.ctcentralcoast.com) is a region of 17 towns and cities strategically located between New York and Boston along the I-95 corridor. The region has a diverse business climate and offers several opportunities for industry clusters – including biotech, financial services, advanced manufacturing, and data centers.
