Savings Bank of Danbury Wins 2019 Holiday Decorating Contest as Most Locally Inspired
DANBURY, CT, ISSUED DECEMBER 23, 2019…The Savings Bank of Danbury has been named as the Most Locally Inspired Decorations for their participation in Danbury’s 2019 Downtown Holiday Decorating Contest.

The downtown business booster group CityCenter ran its annual holiday decoration contest.
Merchants and landlords were encouraged to decorate their doorways and display windows with festive designs that should be visible from the sidewalk. Celebrity Judges included Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton, State Representative Bob Godfrey, State Representative Raghib Allie-Brennan and Jacqueline Smith, Editorial Page Editor of the News-Times.

“We are pleased to be able to participate in this wonderful holiday event,” said Beth Ann Fetzer, Vice President and Community Development officer of Savings Bank of Danbury. “Our staff takes pride in our downtown headquarters and enjoyed making it sparkle for the holidays.”

Lamont: Final approval of hemp legislation is good news for CT farmers
Governor Ned Lamont on Wednesday announced that he looks forward to signing into law legislation that received final approval by the Connecticut House of Representatives tonight creating a pilot program to allow for the production of industrial hemp in the state. The bill was approved in the State Senate late last month and will next be transmitted to the governor’s desk for his signature. Report: Sacred Heart University plays key role in region's economic vitality

According to a recently released biennial Economic Impact Study examining the role of Connecticut’s private colleges and universities, Sacred Heart University (SHU) has a significant impact on the local and regional economies. Total direct spending by the University is in excess of $1.4 billion; direct spending by students accounts for over $99 million; and University visitors spend at least $1.6 million annually in the area.
