Big Head Todd and the Monsters’ formidable reputation rests on their stage performances. This rock band that is adept at playing rhythm & blues, soul, reggae, funk and most other pop styles will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, September 22, at 8 p.m. Rocksteady is their new album, a collection that cuts across a broad swath of stylistic terrain. “It’s a soul-Caribbean record that rocks,” says band member Todd Mohr. Media sponsor is The Peak 107.1fm.
It all started in Colorado in 1986 when three of today’s quartet were touring clubs in Denver. Big Head Todd and the Monsters has evolved into an Internet-based music sales sensation whose single “Blue Sky” was written at the request of crewmembers of the Space Shuttle Discover for their 2005 mission (the first after the Columbia disaster) and, in 2008, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton used “Blue Sky” as her presidential campaign song and Democratic National Convention keynote address opener.
The current lineup is Todd Park Mohr on vocals, guitar, keyboards, saxophone and harmonica; Brian Nevin on drums, percussion and vocals; Rob Squires on bass guitar and vocals, and Jeremy Lawton (the newest member) on keyboards, pedal steel guitar and vocals. Their Billboard chart albums include Sister Sweetly (U.S. Platinum), Strategem, Beautiful World and Riviera.
