Decades before the hypnotic beats and edgy attitude of young starlets like Ke$ha and Lady Gaga began tearing up the charts and racking up hours of radio airplay, music fans already had proof that snappy party-time lyrics and exciting beats are crowd pleasers. So did The B-52s.
The band, which reached the peak of their success in the late eighties and early nineties, remain fan favorites - defined as “The Greatest Party Band Ever.” The quartet is cruising into Stamford this week for the final installment of this summer’s Alive @ 5 concert series. The group brings upbeat and catchy toe-tapping tunes that are chock full of enthusiasm and entertainment factor.
The B-52s originated in Georgia and are famous for the fusion of peppy pop music and quirky punk sounds they have been churning out for decades. The band has become a permanent staple on party music soundtracks and, with the release of multiple studio albums and singles, has sold millions of albums worldwide.
When they began performing, the B-52s frequented New York City venues, but soon grew to international stardom with the help of hits like “Rock Lobster,” “Roam,” and the infamous “Love Shack.” Since then, they have continued to make music for fans around the globe, showing no signs of slowing down and continuing to deliver “shiny lyrics,” “showmanship” and eccentric party-time pop at each new performance space.
Also on stage, as one of this week’s opening acts, is MiniBoone, a rock and roll band hailing from New York City. Fresh off playing at Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music Festival (an experience the band’s blog posts make sound euphoric) earlier this summer, the band is now bringing their power-pop sound to Stamford.
Their songs are loud and somewhat frenetic, but full of contagious energy. Having played in a variety of venues across the United States over the last few years, MiniBoone’s members are not strangers to the stage. Through their upbeat songs, MiniBoone oozes an intense entertainment factor demonstrating just how much the five-member band truly has fun with their music.
Bringing a style much like the fun and frenzied music of the headliners B-52s and MiniBoone, New Jersey natives The Mungers are also opening for the loudmouth lyricists. The Mungers claim to deliver a “tuneful blend of pop/rock in the tradition of early 80s songwriting.”
The Mungers produces a perfect blend of fun and toe-tapping rock music that will bring that much more energy to the Stamford stage this week– hopefully affirming their claim that their music can serve as “the antidote to a dark and dreary world.”
