Opening Night: Twelfth Night
Summer is almost here and so are all of the above. Especially the meatballs as Curtain Call kicks off its summer season with the oft-produced romantic comedy, MULBERRY STREET. Since 1939, this hysterical yet often poignant comedy has entertained thousands of area residents through hundreds of productions.

The story revolves around an immigrant family, living in a basement apartment on Mulberry Street, Little Italy, New York, and features a daughter looking for a husband, a bunch of crazy neighbors and a mother and father trying to hold it all together in their own dysfunctional way! MULBERRY STREET is great for the whole family. Friendly rivalry between neighbors, unrequited love, parental meddling and more, are all part of the universal themes that have made this show popular for so long. Playing in The Dressing Room Theatre June 4 - 28 - cabaret-style seating with a bring your own everything format.

Following MULBERRY STREET, audiences will be treated to our 6th annual, free outdoor Shakespeare on the Green presentation - THE TEMPEST. This story of the banished sorcerer Prospero who uses his magical powers to punish and forgive his enemies when he raises a tempest that drives them ashore a remote island, will captivate even the youngest members of your family with its magic. The level of support we've received for this program over the past five years has proven that Stamford residents (and our surrounding neighbors) love what we're doing and want more. The two-level scaled down version of The Globe Theatre stage (pictured) designed by Associate Artistic Director, Peter Barbieri, Jr., has become the permanent home for this annual outing. Show dates: July 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 & 18. The Royal Green Restaurant is set up for great picnic meals that may be ordered on-site or in advance, making this a terrific night out. Admission is free, with contributions graciously accepted. Lawn opens at 6:00PM - 7:30PM curtain.

Closing out the summer will be the annual youth theatre musical production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, THE KING AND I, featuring a cast and crew of nearly 100 area performers age 10 – 21, scheduled for August 12 through 15. This timeless musical is full of spectacle and grandeur and will be a great family event for the summer.

Filling the daytime hours will be our full-day summer theatre workshops - SUMMERSTOCK and SUMMERSTOCK JR. Every year we see kids soar in these fun and creative programs. Each program runs in two week-sessions throughout the summer, but some are sold-out so call for availability. Students age 6-11 and 11-16 will learn from some of the best theatre-arts instructors in the area – plus they’ll have fun.

Some of the brightest “Stars” that will shine this summer though, will be our local celebrities participating in Curtain Call’s Dancing With The Stars, Stamford to be held June 13 at The Palace Theatre. “This fund-raising event will partner amateur dancers like George Boyce – State Farm Insurance Agent/Owner; Tom Cassone - Director of Legal Affairs, City of Stamford; Deborah A. DeMatteis - VP, Branch Manager HSBC Bank; Carol Fedele - wife of Lt. Governor Michael Fedele; Regina Maguire Kirshbaum - Owner, Agabhumi the Best of Bali; Rich Manz - Second Vice President, General Re Corporation; Frank J. Mercede - President, Frank Mercede and Sons; Ernie Orgera - Engineering Bureau, City of Stamford; Cindy Palmer-Dean - Vice President/Creative Director, Palmer's Market, June Rosenthal – President, Juner Properties and Arthur “Arty” Selkowitz - Chairman, Mill River Collaborative, with dance professionals and is again sure to be the ‘must see’ special event of the year in our area. Last year’s Dancing event sold out weeks in advance, so early reservations are suggested.

Voted BEST LOCAL THEATRE GROUP 2005 through 2009 by readers of Fairfield County Weekly, Curtain Call is proud to be Stamford's longest-running community-based theatre operation. Great, reasonably priced theatre is available in your own backyard. As a non-profit arts organization, we have produced more than 100 productions attended by over 100,000 patrons in the last nine years.

As one of the most-active arts organizations around, we’ll have something for everyone this summer. For more information go to www.curtaincallinc.com or call 203-329-8207.
