BRIDGEPORT, CT - The City’s annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off on Friday evening at 6 p.m. with a free outdoor concert featuring the “King of Latin Soul” Joe Bataan and the Barrio Boys at McLevy Green in downtown Bridgeport.
Each year, the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee comprised of City staff and community leaders create a month-long celebration of Hispanic culture. Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally between September 15 and October 15.
This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month events include the Bridgeport Hispanic Business Expo on September 20, sponsored by the Small & Minority Business Resource Office at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, 999 Broad Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We are very proud of our Hispanic community and all of their accomplishments. The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee does an outstanding job each year, organizing events that celebrate Hispanic history and culture in Bridgeport,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “I look forward to seeing a great turnout for Friday night’s kickoff event at McLevy Green, bringing hundreds of Latin music lovers to downtown on Friday night.”
