The whole family can have a grand time at The Muttville Comix Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 7, at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Johnny Peers and his clever canines, each a rescue dog, will put on two shows, at 1 & 4 p.m., as they outsmart their master and perform doggy stunts and tricks. Before each show under a tent on the green outside the Playhouse, kids can get up close and personal with a real fire truck and meet Ridgefield Volunteer Firemen, eat hot dogs, have their faces painted by Enchanted Garden and do lots more fun things between performances from 2 – 4 p.m.
The Muttville Comix Family Fun Day at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, May 7, is more than just a great show with daredevil dogs. It includes kids touring a real fire truck and meeting Ridgefield Volunteer Firemen, eating hot dogs, having their faces painted by Enchanted Garden and doing lots more fun things under a tent on the green from 2 – 4 p.m. between the 1 & 4 p.m. performances starring circus pro Johnny Peers and his clever canines, each of whom is a rescue dog. Together, they put on a show filled with frivolity and antics for kids of all ages.
The pups outsmart their master by doing the opposite of what he commands when they climb ladders, jump through hoops, walk tightropes and perform other feats of doggy daring. This show has sold out at The Ridgefield Playhouse in the past. Special guest is “2 and 1”, the middle school champs of the 2010 Ridgefield BandJam, who will rock the house. This family event is part of the Pepsi Children's Series and is underwritten by Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital & South Salem Animal Hospital and partially underwritten by Blue Buffalo Co., makers of BlueTM Natural, Healthy & Holistic Dog + Cat Food and by Chuck E. Cheese’s, Kiddy Kars and Wooster School of Danbury. Hotdogs, hamburgers and ice cream are being provided by J&E Ice Cream. Media sponsors are 98Q, WLAD and Oldies 850. Union Savings “Arts for Everyone” recipient is Green Chimneys. A portion of the proceeds from this event will go towards Japan Earthquake Relief.
Just before the show starts inside the theater, Johnny Peer’s sidekick clown roams the audience with gags and popcorn for the kids. At the end of the performance, the audience goes up to the stage for a canine meet & greet. Johnny Peers’ show has been seen on four continents and won 1st place on Animal Planet's “Pet Star” in 2003. Peers himself is a Ringling Clown College alumnus.
