Derek Trucks and his band are appearing at The Ridgefield Playhouse

The Derek Trucks Band, a blend of jazz, rock, blues, Latin and Eastern Indian music, is returning to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 29 at 8 p.m. Since their last visit, which played to a SRO audience, this band, steeped in improvisation and musical exploration, has released the album, "Songlines." An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($50 upgrade) is available for this show, which includes a cocktail party from 6:30-7:30 p.m. as well as VIP parking and, when available, a meet and greet with the artist.
This rhythmic band's focus is on the art form itself. So, what you hear is substance, not hype. What you hear is pure music that rocks, and live is the best way to hear it, though "Songlines" signals the DTB's arrival at a spiritual plateau after a decade long journey of musical discovery.
Derek Trucks, whose uncle was a founding member of The Allman Brothers, also plays slide guitar on stage with the Allman Brothers Band. As he says, "When your childhood heroes ask you to play, 'no' is hardly an option." With so much invested in the Derek Trucks Band, he certainly didn't want to break up that group, so he spends a good deal of time on the road, reaching a combined audience of more than a million fans in a few years-sometimes with his singer wife, Susan Tedeschi, who will appear on The Ridgefield Playhouse stage on October 9.
Todd Smallie, bass and vocal, joined up with Mr. Trucks in 1994, when the latter was but 15. Later they were joined by Yonrico Scott (drums, percussion and vocal), Kofi Burbridge (keyboard, flute and vocal) and Mike Mattison (lead vocal).
