Singer/songwriter Caroline Jones, known for her album, Fallen Flower, will entertain shoppers at the 2011 Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend, Dec. 3 & 4, in downtown Greenwich, Conn.
Greenwich, CT - Shop, dine and be merry as you stroll around downtown Greenwich this holiday season. Caroling, entertainment, horse drawn carriage rides and ice sculptures will set the season in motion downtown, while over 80 retailers and restaurants welcome shoppers with specialty foods and products at the Third Annual Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend, Saturday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, December 5 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Greenwich merchants from East and West Putnam Avenue to Lewis Street to East and West Elm Street to Mason Street and along Greenwich Avenue will be joining the fun festivities. Parking will be free all weekend, compliments of the Parking Services Department of the Town of Greenwich.

An ice sculpture competition, sponsored by Greenwich Magazine and Abby M. Taylor Fine Art, will involve professional ice carvers and will be located in front of the Greenwich Senior Center Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. A panel of judges will choose the winners and the finished ice creations will be on display Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You also have the opportunity to experience an old-fashioned, holiday horse drawn carriage ride down Greenwich Avenue and up Mason Street from 12 to 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The carriage will be picking up and dropping off at both the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Amogerone Crossway and the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Fawcett Place.

The Holiday Entertainment Headquarters Tent, sponsored by the Hollywood Pop Gallery / Le Pop Nouveau, Northeast Tent Productions and Greenwich Garden Design, will be located in front of Saint Mary Parish, 178 Greenwich Avenue, and will feature a variety of musical groups on both days, including Caroline Jones, The Grace Notes, a popular Greenwich women’s a cappella group, The Off Sounders, Greenwich’s premier men’s a cappella group, the Mistletones and more.

The 80+ participating retailers and restaurants have paired with specialty vendors to offer food and drink tastings and other unique product samplings to make this year’s holiday shopping an enjoyable experience. In addition, special promotions and savings will be available at participating retail outlets and restaurants through the mobile application, Shopper on the Go. Download it for free from iTunes today. At each location, there will also be a donation box for shoppers to contribute to Kids in Crisis. “Because there are no parking fees on Saturday, perhaps that presents an opportunity for people to give that money to Kids in Crisis instead,” said Allen L. Corry, Director of Parking Services in Greenwich.

The Holiday Stroll coincides with the Greenwich Reindeer Festival & Santa’s Workshop, November 25 through December 24. Four live reindeer will live at McArdle’s Florist & Garden Center where families, children, pets, and corporate groups can have their photo taken with Santa at his workshop.

The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce will have two hospitality tents where they will be distributing warm holiday refreshments. Patch, Whole Foods Market and Venture Photography will also have tents with a variety of holiday activities set up along the avenue. The Horse Drawn Carriage Rides Sponsor is Citizen’s Bank. The Premier Media Sponsor is Greenwich Magazine and other Media Sponsors include The Advocate/Greenwich Time, Brooks Community Newspapers, Fairfield Parent and AM1490 WGCH. Event partners include Shopper on the Go, Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Interstate Lumber and the Town of Greenwich Department of Parking Services. Creative design by Creative Insight.

“This event has been created to showcase the extraordinary retail stores and restaurants in the downtown Greenwich area and to promote community spirit during the Holiday Season,” says Tamara Ketler, President of TMK Sports & Entertainment, event creator and producer.
