What does one get with the combination of the vocal stylings of three of the greatest country singers of all time? It’s the “Kings of Country” – a fabulous evening with three of America’s top artists Philip Bauer, Marion Deaton and Marty Edwards, and performing the music of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers, respectively. It will be wall-to-wall music with each artist performing separately as well as together.
Kings of Country will take the stage of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre for Two Performances Only on Friday, November 30 at 7:30pm and Saturday, December 1 at 8pm. The Downtown Cabaret Theatre is located at 263 Golden Hill Street in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Their looks are unbelievable and their voices are dead-on—singing great songs the artists made famous– you’ll never have an evening like this ever—except with the “Kings of Country”! According the critical and popular opinion, “this is as close as you can get to seeing the real thing (especially since Johnny is no longer with us).
Philip Bauer has been recreating the music and live performances of Johnny Cash since 1985 and has developed a massive following in the U.S. and Europe. Bauer’s uncanny looks and stage presence take his audience back to when Cash was the king of country music. Selections include such top hits as “Get Rhythm”, “Man in Black”, “I Walk the Line”, “Ring of Fire” and many more, along with pop country classics and a dead-on impersonation of ‘The Man in Black’ himself. In 1996, at the Charlie Daniels Talent Round Up, Daniels proclaimed, “Philip Bauer’s portrayal of Johnny Cash is the best I’ve ever seen.”
As the band vamps the familiar intro to "Whiskey River," Marion Deaton steps onto the stage, takes the microphone and begins to sing, "Whiskey River take my mind....." Almost immediately the audience’s whispering builds to a crescendo with such comments as "He Looks Just Like Willie!" "Darn, He Sounds Just Like Willie!" This happens every night, every performance, all across the country. Whether he is appearing on a national telecast or in a more intimate venue like the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, both men and women are attracted by his laid back charm as he re-creates Willie Nelson's greatest hits spanning four decades of musical rebellion and excellence leaving audiences of all ages delighted!
As a country singer in a band, people began mistaking Marty Edwards for Kenny Rogers back in the 1990s. Since then, he has traded in his country band to become the premier Kenny Rogers tribute performer in the world. Mexico, Ireland, Australia, Malaysia and the United States are just some of the places that have marveled at the likeness and sound of this fabulous entertainer. Edwards has had the pleasure of meeting the “real” Kenny twice, and, even Kenny is amazed by the similarity and sound. To see him on stage one would think you were watching the real Kenny Rogers concert! Marty walks the walk and talks the talk!
Still in doubt??? Just watch the “Kings of Country” video on YouTube.
