Larger-than-life Popa Chubby to headline at The Ridgefield Playhouse
Popa Chubby
Coming off his two-volume tribute to Jimi Hendrix, "Electric Chubbyland," Popa Chubby is still high on rock 'n' roll-a case of the blues going through heavy metal thunder. Popa Chubby is returning to The Ridgefield Playhouse, where once he opened for Johnny Winter. This time he is headlining, as part of Ridgefield Playhouse's Up and Coming Series, on Saturday, May 31 at 8 p.m.

"Deliveries After Dark" debuted on the Billboard Blues Charts at
number 4-it is Popa Chubby's latest album, and it features more heavy metal than some of his earlier albums, but to his fans that is just fine. The ambitious, good-timing rock songs, the searing guitar solos and the willingness to experiment contribute to a rollicking performance, especially when experienced live.

Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz, is a New Yorker, having grown up in the Bronx. Although he grew up in the 1970s, he took his cue from the 1960s, namely Sly & the Family Stone and Eric Clapton. Chubby's first break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by a radio station in California. Next came the New Artist of the Year Award. Now, through his multi-hundred of club dates, comes an ever-growing fan base.

For tickets ($35) and further information about The Ridgefield Playhouse, call the box office at 203-438-5795; tickets may be also purchased online at www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.
