NORWALK, CT - Less than three weeks before Valentine’s Day, shop for gourmet sweets and unique treats for your sweetie on Sun., Jan. 27 when Chocolate World Expo takes over The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.
Some 35 local and regional vendors will offer tastings and sales of their delicious and decadent chocolates, baked goods, gelato and specialty foods. They’ll be set up in Newman’s Own Hall (near the seals) and throughout the Aquarium’s galleries, which will be fully open that day – at no extra cost to visitors – making the event an outstanding family value.
Participating vendors include Auntie El’s Farm Market, Aurora Gourmet, Bacon Bites, Barbara’s Butter Crunch, Bella’s Home Baked Goods, Breezie Maples Farm, Chocolate Works, Fretzels by Jill, Goodway Bakery, JD Gourmet, Knipschildt Chocolatier (Chocopologie), Le Rouge Chocolates by Aarti, Moon Doggie Coffee Roasters, Peanut Principle, Pucker’s Gourmet, Screme Gelato, Super Seedz, Xocai Healthy Chocolate, Yona’s Gourmet Delight and more.
“The Maritime Aquarium is such a great facility that there are only a few ways to make it better – like maybe adding in a whole lot of fine chocolate,” said Chris Loynd, the Aquarium’s marketing director. “The Expo will be a whole day of fun and yum. Live sharks and chocolate ‘shark bites.’ Frogs and fudge. Crabs and cream-filleds. Touch tanks and truffles. Jellyfish and raspberry-jellied. Somebody stop me!”
Expo/Aquarium visitors will find not only traditional and gourmet chocolates, but also unique offerings like chocolate tarts, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate-flavored coffees, chocolate balsamic dressing, chocolate-covered bacon, moon pies, chocolate bath soaps and even chocolate-covered pickles.
For ready-to-eat treats, Pika’s Farm Table will be making authentic Belgian-style waffles dipped in a choice of white, dark or milk chocolate.
All of The Maritime Aquarium exhibits will be open on Jan. 27 – and will stay open two hours longer than normal: from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“Coming so closely to Valentine’s Day, the timing is perfect,” Loynd said. “Plus, with no NFL playoff games that Sunday, there’s no reason for anyone to stay home.”
Special ticket prices on Jan. 27th are $15 for adults and $10 for kids 2-12, and these prices include both Chocolate World Expo admission and all Maritime Aquarium exhibits. Aquarium members save $2 per ticket. Discounted tickets that include an IMAX movie also will be available online and at the door.
As part of The Maritime Aquarium’s ongoing outreach to the people of Newtown, free admission to Chocolate World Expo has been extended to all current residents of Newtown with proof of residency (such as a valid state-issued license or photo ID), as well as to all Newtown School District employees and Newtown first-responders (police & ambulance) with government-issued photo ID.
