Legendary keyboardist Ray Manzarek, founding member and pianist for The Doors, teams up with world-renowned slide guitar master Roy Rogers for a new take on The Doors classics (think “Riders on the Storm” and “The Crystal Ship”) plus blues and jazz standards when they perform as the Manzarek-Rogers Band. These consummate musicians have a new CD Translucent Blues that weaves rock, blues and jazz through the Manzarek-Rogers creative energy machine. They will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, May 25, at 8 p.m. This event is sponsored by Green Light Limousine Services with media sponsor i95fm.
Critics are raving about the level of musicianship that audiences get to experience when they attend a Manzarek-Rogers Band concert. “Captivating new concert experience!” wrote Sacramento 365.com. And USA Today said: “Pundits who bemoan the scarcity of guitar gods haven’t laid ears on Roy Rogers, whose slide riffs could peel a crawfish.” Zune Music calls Ray Manzarek “…one of the most influential keyboard players in the history of rock music.”
In addition to his guitar virtuosity, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Manzarek is an award-winning singer, producer, film director and writer who has penned Light My Fire: My Life with The Doors among other titles. His sidekick Rogers was in fact named after the singing cowboy, Roy Rogers. Like Manzarek, Rogers is a singer and internationally acclaimed producer, having won awards for producing recordings for John Lee Hooker (four Grammy Nominations and two Grammy Awards) and Ramblin' Jack Elliott (two Grammy Nominations). He has received numerous accolades for his songwriting (Grammy Nomination for “Song for Jessica”), as well as his work on movie soundtracks and television.
