Norwalk, CT - The Norwalk Seaport Association announced in the wake of Hurricane Irene that the Oyster Festival will be held as planned the weekend of September 9 – 11. The Seaport Association decided to move forward after surveying Veteran’s Park with Norwalk city officials on Monday and deeming the park to have minimal damage.
“We are so pleased with the city of Norwalk and especially Parks & Rec who have been especially cooperative and helpful in getting the park in order for the Festival,” said Jerry Toni, Chairman of this year’s Oyster Festival.
Preparations were to have begun this past weekend, but Hurricane Irene postponed them. The Norwalk Seaport Association will be setting up the tents beginning this Wednesday, September 1st andexpects to be on schedule by the time the festival date arrives.
"The Oyster Festival is a great showcase for Norwalk and we are happy that the Norwalk Seaport Association is going forward with the event,” said Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia. “The city is committed to the success of the Festival and we will do all we can to support the Seaport Association's efforts to make this one of the best ever."
The Norwalk Seaport Association and its volunteers are solely responsible for organizing and financing the Oyster Festival. For more information and tickets, visit www.seaport.org. or call (203) 838-9444
