“Los Lonely Boys: Cottonfields and Crossroads” by veteran PBS filmmaker Hector Galan will air on Channels 10 and 13 at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, and on Channel 21 at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27. PBS describes this dynamic trio from West Texas as “three brothers who have revolutionized the American music scene. From their childhood playing cantinas in Texas to their modern-day success, this program tells the personal story behind the group’s distinctive sound.” Mark Roman, the festival entertainment co-chair, says, “We always strive to bring exciting headline attractions to the Seaport’s Oyster Festival audiences and are delighted to be able to spotlight Los Lonely Boys as the kick-off for this year’s festival. We know that their legion of fans are eagerly anticipating Los Lonely Boys’ performance and expect the group’s unique and gutsy music to attract additional festival-goers to the ranks of their admirers.” Los Lonely Boys is comprised of the Garza brothers -- singer and guitarist Henry (28), bass player Jo Jo (26) and drummer Ringo (24). Their music has been described as “a deeply personal and stunning fusion of electric blues and Texas roots, of soulful grooves and good old-fashioned rock’n’roll, of searing six-string licks and Latin beats.” They have toured with the Rolling Stones and Santana and performed at Farm Aid with Willie Nelson. The group won the 2006 Univision Rock Band of the Year award. Los Lonely Boys has made multiple appearances on late night television shows with Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and others. Diamonds, the group’s first album, sold more than 2-million copies and their song “Heaven” won the 2005 Grammy Award as best Pop Vocal Duo/Group. Los Lonely Boys also were nominated for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Best Rock Instrumental. Sacred, their second album, debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 list. The Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival, which is presented by Bridgestone/Town Fair Tire, takes place on Friday, September 5, from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m., on Saturday, September 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is held at Veteran’s Park, which is adjacent to Norwalk Harbor on Seaview Avenue in East Norwalk, Connecticut. The daily entrance fee includes off-site parking, shuttle busses to and from the festival sponsored by First County Bank and performances on three stages. Admission prices at the gate are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for senior citizens (62 and older) and $3.00 for children ages 5-12. Children younger than five enter free. Festival-goers can purchase tickets on-line (www.seaport.org), where a $25.00 weekend pass is available. The Norwalk Seaport Association organizes its annual Oyster Festival as a service to the community and as a way to raise funds for the preservation of the historic 140-year-old Sheffield Island Lighthouse. Proceeds also help underwrite interactive maritime education programs for children throughout the region at Sheffield Island and in the Seaport’s fourth floor loft at 132 Water Street in Norwalk. The three-day festival, which attracts 50,000-60,000 attendees each year, also benefits numerous other local organizations. Since it began in 1977, the Norwalk Seaport Association has provided an opportunity for local nonprofit organizations to earn money for their programs and services by operating food booths at the Oyster Festival. The Seaport Association also helps youth groups by hiring them to work at the festival. Last year, nonprofit organizations raised $240,000 at the Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival. The Norwalk Seaport Association, Inc., a nonprofit environmental, preservation and educational organization founded in 1978, is dedicated to promoting an appreciation for the region’s maritime and seafaring heritage through a variety of enjoyable and entertaining programs. The organization also owns and operates the vessel G.W. Tyler, which conveys visitors to Sheffield Island for tours of the lighthouse, special events and enjoyment of a walking trail through the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. © Copyright by StamfordPlus.com.
