WATERBURY – Audiences will get a lesson in “What Is Hip” when funk and soul band Tower of Power return to the Palace stage on Friday, October 22, at 8:00pm. Well known for their songs "What is Hip?" and "You're Still a Young Man," Tower of Power is one of those rare bands who can claim to be the real deal, 100 proof, aged-to-perfection, ground zero Soul. Known for their formidable concert appearances, the band has performed with the likes of Elton John, Smokey Robinson, and Rod Stewart over its 40 year career and is credited with influencing an entire generation of musicians.

Over the past few years, Tower of Power has added new members and a fresh outlook, but the band has always remained true to itself and its soul music roots, never failing to please audiences with its signature sonic blasts of brass and funk.

In what promises to be special evening for the theater, the concert will also mark the official kick-off to the non-profit performing art center’s 2010-2011 Annual Fund Campaign. Limited $75 VIP tickets, which include a pre-show reception, are available in prime seating locations. Proceeds will benefit the Annual Fund.

The event is sponsored in part by All Star Transportation; Athena Healthcare; Crystal Rock Water Company; DDL Enterprises; Jarjura’s Farm; Lombard Group; Mercury Fuel; Porzio Chiropractic; The Durable Companies; The Law Offices of Thomas E. Porzio; and Triple Stitch Sportswear.

Tickets for Tower of Power are on sale now and can be purchased by phone at 203-346-2000, online at www.palacetheaterct.org or in person at the Palace Theater Box Office at 100 East Main Street. Groups of 20 or more qualify for discounted rates and should call the Group Sales hotline at 203-346-2002.
