Rob Mathes is a Grammy and Emmy nominated musician, music director, singer/songwriter, arranger, and record producer. In 2009, Rob was the music director for the presidential "We Are One" inaugural concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. He has been the music director for the annual Kennedy Center Honors for seven years in a row and is well known in the area for his annual Christmas Concerts. Recently, Rob Mathes has been working with Sting on an upcoming orchestral tour. He is also accompanying Bettye LaVette, “The Great Lady of Soul,” at Carnegie Hall the week before the First@First@Four concert, and produced a new CD for Bettye LaVette that is being released in June.
The Rob Mathes and Friends First@First@Four Concert will be more blues oriented and will include some of Rob Mathes' original music from his Evening Train CD and new material that will be on his soon-to-be-released CD, Wheelbarrow. Accompanying Mathes are some of the best musicians in the New York area -- Will Lee on Bass from the David Letterman Show, Shawn Pelton on Drums from Saturday Night Live, Billy Masters on Guitar, Chris Coogan on keyboards, and Vaneese Thomas and Ian Cron on vocals.
The First at First at Four Concert Series provides a forum featuring prominent musical talent from the Fairfield County area and around the world to perform in an intimate, family-friendly setting. Held at The First United Methodist Church in Stamford on the first Sunday of the month at 4:00 p.m., hence the name First@First@Four, the concert series is a beautiful venue that helps promote the arts in the area, while at the same time, raises funds for First United Methodist Church’s non-profit outreach programs. Past concerts included Grammy award-winning jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum, Tony Award winner Melba Moore, TransJazz, a New Orleans jazz group The Riverboat Ramblers, Chris Coogan and the Good News Gospel Choir, Richard Cookie Thomas, the world-renown Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble, The Cypress Ensemble, jazz pianist Joyce DiCamillo and jazz greats Jason Moran and Alicia Hall Moran. This is the second time Rob Mathes will perform at a First@First@Four concert.
The final concert of the series is The Young Artists’ Showcase featuring local emerging talent on May 2, 2010. To learn more about that concert, contact the First United Methodist Church at 203-324-1323.
