The supergroup known as the Royal Southern Brotherhood featuring Grammy® Award winning New Orleans's Neville Brother Cyril Neville, Devon Allman, son of rock legend Greg Allman, and Mike Zito of Derek Trucks Band will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, July 11, at 8 p.m. Bassist Charlie Wooten and drummer Yonrico Scott, both heavyweight names in their own right, round out the rest of the band. Before they even hit a chord, The Royal Southern Brotherhood have your attention.

In the U.S. South, where music is religion, two rock 'n' roll bloodlines tower above all others. Mention of the Allman and Neville Brothers casts a magic spell. You can check out the magic for yourself, as they perform fresh off the release last month of their new album The Royal Southern Brotherhood. Special guest is Johnny Boots, Connecticut's hard working, big sounding power trio that plays driving, blues-infused rock. This concert is part of the Guinness Black Lager Rock Series.

With a bloodline that flows from Professor Long Hair to Muddy Waters, Mississippi Fred McDowell to Gov’t Mule, and Allman’s southern Jam Rock to the Neville Brother's Southern Soul music, the Royal Southern Brotherhood keeps a long music lineage burning bright. The current line-up of musicians in Royal Southern Brotherhood is Cyril Neville on percussion and vox, Devon Allman and Mike Zito on guitar and vox, Charlie Wooton on bass and Yonrico Scott on drums.

The Boston Globe wrote: “Each member of the Brotherhood - Devon Allman, Mike Zito, Cyril Neville, Charlie Wooton, and Yonrico Scott - had a perfectly fine career chugging along before taking on this project. The ensemble is creating music that is simultaneously progressive and traditional - rock, blues, and funk flow freely - yet sounds distinct from their individual repertoires…”.

In 2010, the Neville Brothers’ vocalist and percussionist, Grammy® award-winning Cyril Neville found himself once again at the helm of the jam rock scene when he began fronting hipster funk group Galactic. The union with Galactic came immediately following a "Song of the Year" Blues Music Award for “Pearl River”, co-written with Mike Zito. In 2011, Devon Allman and Mike Zito, two bandleader/guitarists who knew of each other from growing up and playing shows in and around St. Louis, met with Cyril Neville in New Orleans and Royal Southern Brotherhood was formed. Devon Allman's guitar style is reminiscent of his uncle Duane's with the soulfulness of Carlos Santana. Mike Zito comes from the school of blues-rock. His style has been compared to that of Albert King and Walter Trout.
