Songwriter/actor Chris Isaak’s sweeping melancholy of Roy Orbison’s classic singles ("Crying", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "In Dreams") results in a stylized take on '50s and '60s rock & roll that helped make Isaak into a star in the early '90s. His hits include "Wicked Game", "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing" and “Somebody’s Crying”. On Wednesday, September 3, at 8 p.m., Chris Isaak will showcase his smooth, dusky baritone voice and effortless brand of cool at The Ridgefield Playhouse. His latest album Beyond the Sun, pays tribute to the roots of rock 'n' roll. For tickets ($95), call the box office at 203-438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. (contributed photo)
Songwriter/actor Chris Isaak clearly loves the reverb-laden rockabilly and country of Sun Studios. In particular, he transfers the sweeping melancholy of Roy Orbison’s classic singles ("Crying", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "In Dreams") to the more stripped-down, rootsy sound of Sun, resulting in a stylized take on '50s and '60s rock & roll that made Isaak into a star in the early '90s, propelled to a great degree by the hit single "Wicked Game". On Wednesday, September 3, at 8 p.m., Chris Isaak will showcase his smooth, dusky baritone voice and effortless brand of cool at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Isaak wows audiences worldwide with rock songs including "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing" not to mention his hit “Somebody’s Crying”. His latest album, Beyond the Sun, pays tribute to the roots of rock 'n' roll. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a cocktail party from 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show by calling the box office (203-438-5795). This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter and Xfinity Rock Series.

Isaak’s breakthrough began when famed director David Lynch used the instrumental version of Isaak’s song “Wicked Games” in the film Wild at Heart. With a quarter century of music under his belt, Isaak has created the 15th album, the one he always wanted to?make, Beyond the Sun, which rings with his signature mix of pathos and humor. A lot of Elvis is evident in the timeless “Trying to Get to You”, “I Forgot to Remember to Forget”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, “How’s the World Treating You”, “It’s Now or Never”, “She’s Not You” and “My Happiness”, the first song Elvis ever recorded. Isaak opens the set with Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, and later offers his take on “I Walk the Line.”

In addition to Chris Isaak’s status as a rock star, he has appeared in numerous films and starred with Keanu Reeves and Bridget Fonda in the 1993 Bernardo Bertolucci-directed Little Buddha. Isaak also played a major role in David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992). Other motion pictures include Married to the Mob (1988), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), That Thing You Do! (1996), A Dirty Shame (2004), and The Informers (2008).

For tickets ($95), call the box office at 203-438-5795. For more information on The Ridgefield Playhouse, visit ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
