From its annual summer series of live, staged readings of new and established plays, Square One Theatre Company along with The Stratford Library, will present Trumbo: Red, White & Blacklisted at The Milford Public Library on Friday, September 10 (2010) at 7pm. The Library is located at 57 New Haven Avenue in Milford, Connecticut.

Sponsored by The Milford Bank, the reading of Trumbo, described as insightful, extremely humorous, touching and historically accurate, is FREE and open to the public.

The Friends of Square One Theatre will serve light refreshments after the Q & A with the actors and director following the reading.

When legendary screenwriter Dalton Trumbo defiantly stood-up against the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1947, he was thrown in prison and blacklisted as one of the 'Hollywood Ten.' Written by Trumbo’s son, Christopher, the play is derived from a collection of Dalton’s brilliant and razor-sharp letters to friends, former friends and family throughout his lifetime. Trumbo reveals how the author of such legendary films as “Spartacus,” “Roman Holiday” and “Exodus” took on Congress, Hollywood and the Red Scare – and won.

Square One Theatre award-winning actor Alexander Kulcsar of Fairfield will portray Dalton Trumbo with Peter Wood of Stratford as the narrator. Tom Holehan (Stratford), Artistic Director of Square One, will stage the reading.

Kulcsar is the recipient of five Square One Theatre Subscribers Awards including Outstanding Actor (Moonlight & Magnolias, The Shop at Sly Corner, Camping with Henry & Tom and The Business of Murder) as well as Outstanding Featured Actor (Later Life).

Wood has been nominated for a number of Square One Theatre Subscribers Awards, specifically for The Rainmaker and The Best Man.

The reading is FREE and open to the public. NO reservations will be accepted. Doors open at 6:30 pm for general seating only, first-come, first-served.
