The Fairfield Museum and History Center’s Holiday Express Train Show opens December 4

The Fairfield Museum’s Holiday Express Train Show opens December 4, after Fairfield’s Tree Lighting Ceremony, and continues weekends through the season.
On Friday, December 4 at 7pm, following Fairfield’s annual tree lighting ceremony, the public is invited to warm up at the Fairfield Museum and enjoy the start of the Holiday Express Train Show. People will have the opportunity to stroll down an illuminated path across the Historic Town Green to delight in the magic of model trains winding around a spectacularly decorated tree and through beautiful holiday scenery. They will also see collectibles, classic trains, modular dioramas and antique trains in this eye-popping holiday display.

Special Opening Night Admission: $3 per person suggested donation, FREE for children ages five and under. (Opening Raindate: December 5). The Fairfield Museum Shop will have great gifts for train enthusiasts too! The show continues on weekends, December 5 – January 3 from 12pm – 4pm and is open during school vacation week: December 28 – 30 from 10am – 4pm and on New Year’s Eve, 10am – 12pm. $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, FREE for kids ages 5 and under and members of the Fairfield Museum. The Holiday Express Train Show is sponsored by: GE, People’s United Bank, HobbyTownUSA of Fairfield, Melissa & Doug, Amtrak, FairfieldParent Magazine, Housatonic Model Railroad Club and Connecticut G-Scalers Club.

The museum is offering a number of exciting programs that relate to the train show. A Canned Good Drive will be held on Saturday, December 12 from 12pm-4pm. Visitors who bring a canned food item will receive 10% off in the museum’s gift shop where they can find gifts for train-lovers and more! Canned Goods will be donated to Operation Hope.

A Community Day is planned for Monday, December 28 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, where visitors can enjoy an afternoon of stories and activities at Fairfield Museum while viewing the Holiday Express Train show.

A Pre-school Storytime is set for Tuesday December 29 from 10:00am – 11:00am where kids can have fun with planes, trains, automobiles and bicycles too. Enjoy the Holiday Express Train Show and hear stories about wonderful transportation machines.

Finally, a Holiday Scavenger Hunt is planned for Wednesday, December 30 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm (recommended for ages 8 + with a parent / guardian). Visitors can view the Holiday Express Train show and learn how people have gotten from here to there and everywhere as you look for secrets hidden in the galleries and train layout.
