Crystal Theatre will perform an original musical mystery, “The Red Shoes,” on December 10 and 11 in the Ben Franklin Auditorium at Bayview and Hillside Avenues, Norwalk. Performances are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $12.00 adults; $10.00 seniors/students; $7.00 children aged 16 and younger. Reservations can be made on-line at www.crystaltheatre.org or by calling 203-847-4850.

This dancing and singing extravaganza revolves around Celia Worthington. When her parents die of influenza and her fortune is stolen, Celia is sent to Miss Bellingham’s Asylum for Talented Orphans, where she must earn her way — along with a host of carol-singers, can-can dancers and acrobats who perform at “Midley’s Magnificent Music Hall”. Celia dances in a pair of red ballet shoes that she received from her parents and her performance is so impressive that the Royal Ballet tries to hire her. Complications arise when the red shoes disappear. Who has stolen the red shoes and are they really necessary for Celia’s success as a dancer?

Set in London in 1860, this holiday musical features a talented cast of advanced students in 8th grade through college. The show will be the Senior Project for Norwalk residents Kaitlyn Cleary, Jessica Foulds and Justin Poruban, who will graduate from high school next year. “The Red Shoes” was written by Cheryl Kemeny and is directed by Samantha Kulish, with choreography by Char Fromentin assisted by Katy O’Melia.
