Vertical Horizon to perform this week at Stamford's Alive@Five (contributed image)
As a band still favored by the college-aged generation alongside the likes of N’Sync and the “…Baby One More Time” era of Britney Spears, Vertical Horizon fans will hopefully get ‘everything they want’ this Thursday at the city’s fifth Alive @ 5 concert of the season.
The band, also famous for “You’re a God” and “Best I Ever Had”, [before Drake, one of today’s rap music favorites, titled a track with a similar name], is best know for one of the year 2000’s most played radio hits, “Everything You Want.” The track, which seems to remain a top mix tape pick for many twenty-somethings, was also a single, released from an album with the same name.
While not quite as successful after “Everything You Want” topped the charts and the album peaked as Billboard’s number 40, Vertical Horizon brings an interesting range of music, from pop-rock crossovers to airy acoustic jams that carry a bit of a folk sound.
In opening for Vertical Horizon, Seth Adams brings fresh musical talent to the Heineken Stage. With a sometimes soft, sometimes pop-infused and an always guitar-heavy sound, reminiscent of Graham Colton and Matt Nathanson, Adams usually performs a range of tracks from his repertoire. He has released a number of EPs and recordings with his band since 2006, including two studio records. The most recent, Amplify, was released in 2010.
On his website, Adams’ music style is described as “vintage-laced American influenced rock & roll” and attempting to “create compelling, accessible, timeless rock music with honest lyrics” while bring “passion and impact” into every live performance. His band, with Adams on lead vocals, fuses together diverse music talent from alt-country experts and rock & roll specialists.
The third performer this week is Boston-based Mission Hill, an alternative rock band receiving steady acclaim throughout New England and the indie music world. Their website proves nothing short of the fact that this band is on their own ‘mission’ – attempting to reach audiences across the country and bring acclaim to their catchy alt-rock hooks and memorable song lyrics.
The four-member band has been award an LA Music Award, was named the “Top Local band to Watch in 2010,” by Boston Music Spotlight, and was also on a list of the “Top Ten Unsigned Bands in the Country.” Mission Hill has been performing across the Northeast in recent shows and this week Stamford residents will have the chance to decide if they agree with the band’s recent acclaim. But the collection of passionate vocals and memorable beats, fitting in with similar styles to this week’s other performers, are likely to prove popular with the local crowd.
