Three renowned artists who represent a variety of musical genres will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse this weekend starting with Toots and the Maytals who will play their full electric Jamaican sound with special guest Griff Anthony on Thursday, April 11. Three Dog Night celebrates on Friday, April 12, with their #1 singles “Mama Told Me (Not To Come)”, “Joy to The World”, “Black And White” and many more, with special guest The Characters. Five-time Grammy® award-winner Buddy Guy performs on Sunday, April 14, all at 8 p.m. Buddy’s special guest is blues guitar prodigy Quinn Sullivan.
Toots & the Maytals
Toots Hibbert, one of the great voices of Jamaica, boasts a career that runs from ska through rock-steady to reggae. Toots and the Maytals hold the current record of number one hits in Jamaica at thirty-one. Described as “one of the true architects of Reggae”, Toots & the Maytals are credited with having coined the term reggae on their 1968 single Do The Reggae. The band won the 2005 Grammy ® award for best reggae album True Love, that includes re-recorded versions of their classics with legendary musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards plus some of today’s most popular artists-- No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Roots, and Shaggy. Toots received another Grammy® nomination for his 2008 release “Light Your Light". Three Dog Night

Guitar virtuoso Buddy Guy is a five-time Grammy® award-winner, whose Playhouse shows sell out. “The guitarists’ guitarist” describes the prominence of blues artist Buddy Guy. With a career spanning nearly 60 years, Buddy is ranked 30th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”. His music is often labeled Chicago blues but can vary from the deepest blues sounds to rock, soul and free jazz that morphs at each performance. Guy’s hits include “First Time I Met the Blues” and “Stone Crazy”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
