OLD LYME, CT - On Saturday, February 11 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, February 12 from 1-5pm families will enjoy a winter weekend filled with hands-on, minds-on fun and discounted admission at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme. For this weekend only, adult admission is $5 when accompanied by a child. There are a variety of activities throughout the day to keep everyone busy, including, fun scavenger hunts in the Griswold House, special “Can You Find Me? Cards” in the Krieble Gallery, and creative projects in the Hartman Education Center.
Each day there are special performances that require reservations. There is a $5 per person charge for each performance. On Saturday, February 11 at 11am and 3pm visitors can enjoy a puppet show, The Twig Family in the Oak Tree. This original story by puppeteer Deborah Costine is about a family of imaginary twig people who live in an oak tree in harmony with nature. They share a tree with robins, a gray squirrel and a tree frog. On Sunday, February 12 at 2pm musician Dave Fry performs his popular Just Imagine concert. Dave mixes folk music, rock and roll, spontaneous songwriting, storytelling and, of course, audience participation. Dave includes acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, an occasional banjo, as well as unaccompanied singing.
Visitors to this special weekend are among the first to view …isms: Unlocking Art’s Mysteries, an exhibition that opens February 10. ...isms features 100 works of American art and culture from the 18th to the 21st centuries that seeks to explain art movements and styles. It is perfect for non-museumgoers as an introduction to these stylistic concepts. Seasoned art lovers will enjoy testing their knowledge and learning about the larger historical contexts that have informed artists’ work. The exhibition fosters a richer appreciation of familiar objects from the collection as well as introduces new acquisitions and selected loans.
