Area Cancer Survivor Designs Necklace to Support Bennett Cancer Center Fundraiser
Hope In Motion necklace
Local jewelry designer Robin Leonard has designed a special sterling silver necklace in support of this year’s Hope in Motion for Stamford Hospital ’s Bennett Cancer Center Walk, Run and Ride. The Weston resident sees this as her chance to support a cause that is close to her heart. Leonard herself is a cervical cancer survivor.

The Silver Ring necklace is 7/8” in diameter and hangs on a 16” (or 18”) suede rope with a sterling silver lobster clasp and 2” extender chain. The words “Hope in Motion” are hand-stamped on the front of the necklace, and the design includes a sterling butterfly charm, the symbol for the Hope in Motion event this year.

The necklace sells for $68 (which includes tax) and 30% of the proceeds will be donated to the Bennett Cancer Center. For an additional $10, individuals can customize the necklace and have the name of a loved one hand-stamped on the back (up to 18 letters).

Leonard is not a stranger to giving back. She has made similar arrangements to benefit a number of children’s charities. However, this is the first time she has made a design exclusive for an organization and this is also her first such donation in support of cancer services.

“I really enjoy being able to personalize my designs, especially to know they have such special meaning to the recipients,” said Leonard. “I’ve been fortunate in my life and was lucky to have my cancer caught at an early stage. Perhaps I’ve been led to this point to be able to give back in this unique way.”

The Hope in Motion necklace can be ordered at the Walk, Run and Ride event on Sunday, June 3 at Mill River Park. It will also be available through the event’s website, www.walkrunride.org.

Since 1996, the Bennett Cancer Center ’s WALK, RUN and RIDE events have raised funds to support the vital programs and services offered to patients and their families at the Bennett Cancer Center. In 11 years, these beloved fundraisers have generated a total of $6.25 million for the cancer center. This year, the events have merged and moved the starting point to Stamford Downtown’s Mill River Park .

Hope in Motion for Stamford Hospital ’s Bennett Cancer Center WALK, RUN & RIDE is presented by Stamford Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of Stamford Hospital. The event’s founding and presenting sponsor is The Ashforth Company, a diversified real estate firm in Stamford. The Media sponsors include The Advocate & Greenwich Time; Cablevision of Connecticut; News 12 Connecticut ; The New 96.7 The Coast; WEBE 108 and StamfordPlus Magazine. The community sponsors include DKR Capital, Marsh/Mercer; Paul Hastings, RBS Greenwich Capital, Ring’s End Lumber; Sempra Commodities, The Thomson Corporation, and UBS.
