The City of Hartford Department of Health and Human Services is soliciting proposals from local community organizations that have programs aimed at preventing teen pregnancy in Hartford. Among applicant community based organizations, up to 10 may be selected for a grant of up to $5,000 in order to develop their own program with assistance from the staff at the Department of Health and Human Services. The Hartford Teen Pregnancy Initiative is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Reproductive Health, and part of the President Obama’s Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI). The goal is to reduce teen pregnancy and teen births by 10% by 2015.
“It is only with support and hard work from community based organizations that our department will be able to achieve the goals of this important effort”, says Dr. Raul Pino, Director of Health and Human Services.
A pre-proposal conference will be held to explain the process to prospective applicants on Wednesday December 12, 2012 @ 3:00 PM at 131 Coventry Street, Hartford. In 2010, the City of Hartford was selected by TPPI to receive $4.5 million over 5 years to establish a community-wide approach to reduce the rate of teenage pregnancies.
