Stamford, CT - On the 50th anniversary of the 1958 NFL Championship Game, ESPN Films is asking Televersemedia to update the famous game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants in living color. Using original black and white film footage and radio calls, Televersemedia is up converting the game to high definition, restoring and colorizing what many have called “the greatest game ever played”. The program also incorporates modern day interview pairings with the Colts and Giants of 1958 along side today’s stars from both teams. “Being at that historic game is an experience few people can remember, our objective is to bring it to life for a whole new generation of NFL fans”, says Jeff Taylor, supervising producer for the project.

Played on December 28, 1958 at Yankee Stadium, the '58 title game featured the Giants coming back from a 14-3 deficit to take a 17-14 lead, only to see the Colts dramatically tie it at the end of regulation and then win it 23-17 in overtime. With the latest technology, the program looks to settle, once and for all, the debate about whether or not Frank Gifford got a first down that would have clinched the game for the Giants. The action will be colorized by referencing color photos from the ‘58 game to insure accuracy from kick-off to the sudden death finale. “The sun was out when the game started and it was night by the time the game finished, so the color changed dramatically throughout the contest”, says Taylor, “our goal is to match the color perfectly, taking into account the position of the sun and the extreme cold”. The interview pairings include: Frank Gifford and Gino Marchetti with Tom Coughlin, Art Donovan with Michael Strahan, Raymond Berry with Tony Dungy and Pat Summerall with Adam Vinatieri. This film is scheduled to debut in high definition on ESPN, Saturday December 13 at 9pm ET immediately following the Heisman Trophy presentation.
