Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy joined Sesame Workshop’s Dr. Glenda Revelle, vice president of Education & Research, Creative Development and Digital Media, Sesame’s Makeda Mays Green, director of Creative Development and Digital Media, and Jim Blumenthal, President of CLC’s Board of Director during the recent CLC Alphabet Ball
Elmo performed in a tuxedo Saturday, April 5, 2008 when Childcare Learning Centers honored Sesame Workshop’s Gary E. Knell for his commitment to early childhood education at CLC’s fourth annual Alphabet Ball in the Stamford Marriott. Proceeds from CLC’s Alphabet Ball support CLC’s early childhood education programs to ensure that all children in the greater Stamford area enter kindergarten well prepared and eager to learn.

More than 250 guests were delighted when Sesame Workshop Muppeteer Kevin Clash as Elmo joined CLC’s Board President Jim Blumenfeld and Maya Knell onstage in honoring Sesame’s President and Chief Executive Officer. The furry red monster and Knell’s youngest daughter roasted Knell’s international travel and his dedication to children worldwide.

Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy also praised Knell for his interest in early childhood education in Stamford, where Sesame has collaborated with CLC in literacy initiatives. “CLC’s 106-year commitment to early childhood education has prepared generations of Stamford’s children for public school. CLC’s partnership with Sesame Workshop in many new literacy initiatives is helping raise the English language skills of many of our children and dovetails with Sesame’s legacy. We look forward to many more initiatives with both these outstanding institutions.”

Sesame Workshop’s Elmo, performed by Elmo creator Kevin Clash, joined Maya Knell in a tribute to Gary E. Knell, Sesame Workshop’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
CLC Board President James Blumenfeld said, “Mr. Knell leads Sesame Workshop in its mission to create innovative, engaging content that maximizes the educational power of all media to help children reach their highest potential. We are fortunate that Mr. Knell has also enthusiastically embraced CLC and its children.”

The 2008 Alphabet Ball co-chairs were William Hennessey and his wife, Jevera, and Kelly Holloway and his wife, Kerri. Hennessey is a member of CLC’s Leadership Council, which is composed of corporate and community leaders who bring both strategic support and fundraising support to CLC. He was a member of the CLC Board from 2001 to 2005. Holloway has been a member of CLC Board since 2004.
