NORWALK, CT - October 14, 2009 - With beautiful weather and some friendly competition, many wonderful supporters of Family & Children’s Agency enjoyed the FCA 2009 Golf & Tennis Classic on September 14. Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield provided an ideal setting for the event, which raised more than $90,000 for FCA programs. Helping youth and their families overcome some major life challenges, including poverty, homelessness, mental illness, parenting issues, aging and disability, and responding to the need for safe, loving homes and positive role models for youth are the major areas of focus for FCA.
“Family & Children’s Agency is truly fortunate to have such a dedicated group of friends who support our work in local communities. We enjoyed a wonderful day of golf, tennis, and fun, and I really appreciate the participation of all our sponsors, players, and volunteers who made this event such a success for us,” noted Robert Cashel, President and CEO of Family & Children’s Agency.
Generous sponsors of the golf tournament included: an anonymous Title Sponsor; Host Sponsor The Brown Family; Birdie Sponsors Bloomberg Tradebook, The Brody Family, DLB Capital, Goldman Sachs, Media Storm, William O. Murphy, and two anonymous supporters; Hole Sponsors Allianz of America, The Beck Family, Hotspot FXi, Mark and Jay Lux, Muehlstein, Kathleen and Peter Murphy, Societe Generale, UBS Stamford and UBS Westport; and Tee Sponsor People’s United Bank. Bank of America, Beardsley, Brown & Bassett, BlumShapiro, McMahon Ford, and Morgan Stanley all fielded corporate foursomes.

Credit for the success of the event goes to co-chairs Mark Brown of Wilton and Mark Lux of Rowayton, and their committee members: Robert Brody, Matthew Greene, Paul McErlain, Kathy and Peter Murphy, Bill Webster, and Tim Williams, all of Wilton; Wenton Camporin, of New Canaan, Ken Dougherty, of Fairfield, and William Murphy, of Rowayton.
Co-chairs Mark Lux and Mark Brown praised the staff for organizing a great day. “We wanted to thank all of the donors and sponsors for their fantastic support of FCA,” said Mark Lux.
For the first time this year, FCA added a Tennis Classic to begin the day at Brooklawn. Chair Leslie Gambee expressed her thanks to the 24 players, as well as the sponsor and other donors, saying, “The Tennis Classic is a great way to have fun while raising money for a worthy cause. I’m particularly happy to have had the enthusiastic support of sponsor Meg Campbell, whose hard work was instrumental in our success. I want to thank everyone who was involved in planning, organizing, and playing in our tournament, and I look forward to helping build our participation and contributions in future years.”
Other donors included Peggy Garbus Photography, Rockwell Art & Framing, Canine Training & Behavior Services, Fido’s Food Bin, Alexandra Daly, MMR Designs and Sea Beans Studio.
More than simply a few hours of competition and camaraderie, FCA’s 2009 Golf and Tennis Classic was a meaningful event, since 89 cents of every dollar raised by FCA goes directly to help the individuals and families served by FCA. Family & Children’s Agency is a nonprofit family serving agency that strengthens communities in lower Fairfield County. Skilled professionals serve clients in seven impact areas: youth development, family strengthening, foster care, adoption, mental health and substance abuse services, homeless services, and services for seniors.
