The First County Bank Foundation has awarded The Ferguson Library $11,000 to establish a Small Business Center at the Library. The Center will hold an extensive collection of print and digital materials, and serve as a collaborative space for supporting the informational needs of small businesses. The grant will also allow the Library to expand its programming with specific lectures and workshops geared toward helping small business owners.

“We know small businesses are key to a strong economy and a vibrant city, and this grant will help the Library play a vital role in helping to create a climate of success for our region’s small business owners,” said Ernest DiMattia, President of The Ferguson Library. “We are grateful to the community leaders at the First County Bank Foundation for their generosity and vision in helping make this center a reality.”

The Ferguson Library’s Small Business Center will be a conduit for those seeking information on every aspect of small business. The Library will host classes, symposiums and workshops on topics related to small business operations and networking.

The Center will target those interested in and involved in small business— enterprising small business owners, someone with a kernel of a new, exciting idea, or partners working to move beyond their business plan. These resources will generate greater awareness of opportunities available through the Library, other local and regional nonprofits and the city of Stamford.

The Center grew out of Governor Malloy’s new Small Business Express program, which supports the retention and growth of small business in Connecticut through a combination of loans and grants.
